Outcomes Are Important

When we install equipment you can count on that equipment standing the test of time.  Our installations come with comprehensive quality control measures to ensure the correct installation and opperation of each item even before the inpections happen.  Yes, we do pull permits.  It gives our customers confidence and builds trust within our community.

There are many brands to choose from.

We have installed almost every brand and every type of heating and air conditioning equipment.  From water source heat pumps, conventional air cooled equipment, packaged heat pumps and gas/electric, split heat pumps, split systems with standard and high efficiency furnaces, to every type of mini split.

What is the best equipment for you?

Factors:

Price: Though it seems like the most important thing, the other factors will explain why price shouldn’t be your biggest concern.

Equipment Brand: It is important to research which brands that you want a contractor to quote for you.  The difference in quality between brands can be extreme.

One thing to look out for when selecting a brand is the number of subsidiary companies that each company has.

For example: Carrier alone has Bryant, Day and Night, Payne, ICP, and Tempstar to name a few.  Most of these look the same but there are subtle differences between them.  While Bryant has a high efficiency line comparable to Carrier itself and usually comes with the exact same hardware, Payne is usually relegated to lower efficiency models and doesn’t seem to get the noise dampening, hail guards and other quality control that Carrier and Bryant do.

Warranty:  Cold Snap offers a standard one-year labor warranty on all installations where we provide the equipment.  Many brands come with a standard manufacturer’s warranty; however, some are half as long, and if you choose the wrong one you may get a surprise down the road.  When acquiring a system from an internet source the warranty is often reduced to 90 days, which is a small fraction of a normal warranty.

Contractor: Contractor experience in most installations is crucial.  Many contractors in this area have less than 2 years of experience and find it difficult to create a quality outcome when faced with any adverse situation.  Obviously Cold Snap wants you to choose us, but any contractor that you choose should be able to explain how they plan to install the equipment, point out the issues that they are going to face, and provide you with a code compliant path to overcoming those issues.

Control Measures

  • Equipment Leveling: Most equipment requires leveling for lasting operation.  For example: A 90%+ furnace or an indoor coil in the attic won’t drain properly without leveling with the manufacturers required slope and compressors don’t last as long if they aren’t properly leveled.
  • Refrigerant Line Welding:  This one is so important.  Many technicians become so confident in their abilities that they bypass these steps. Cold Snap requires anyone welding refrigerant lines to do a visual inspection of each weld with an inspection mirror, then after all of the welds are complete, they are required to test the lines with high pressure nitrogen to ensure the welds are strong and leak free.
  •  Duct Tightness:  When we install existing ducting onto new equipment we visually inspect each duct for tears and either repair the torn piece or recommend replacement.  When we are installing new ducting Cold Snap uses only the best materials to seal and secure each duct.  Then when the job is complete and the new equipment is running we get a third party inspection to ensure that the ducting meets California’s strict requirements for air leakage.
  • Electrical Installations:  Even though its not always required Cold Snap will install any sun or weather exposed electrical lines within a conduit to protect it from the elements.  We will also use approved strapping and connectors to ensure that any installation is permanent.  We will also install a new fusible disconnect with each installation to ensure your equipment is electrically protected.
  • Title 24 Inspection:  California requires a third party Title 24 inspection for each HVAC installation.  Cold Snap takes care of all scheduling and informs each homeowner of what the process entails.
  • Final Inspection:  It is our hope that every home and business owner will appreciate a properly permitted job.  The extra expense can seem inconvenient, however, there is some confidence gained when the permit is signed off.  In the end you know that the equipment is up to code and will stand the test of time.

Bottom Line: Satifaction, Quality and Comfort are our goals.
